Crafting Understandings


Understanding process is a different one for each of us. The text suggests ways for our students to understand easily, such as question (previous chapter), criticize, explain, etc.

But, how is is possible for our students, who have different learning skills, different motivations, an unique pace, to understand a subject, an idea, or whatever at the same time? We cannot take things for granted and expect one thing for all students.

Besides that, understanding is a process based on investigation and substantiation, but not based on faith, which some of us tend to confuse those concepts sometimes, expecting “students will learn soon or later”. Let’s leave faith for other topics, but not understanding.

As I said before and I repeat it here, ideas in written papers, in conversation, theory in general is far away from reality in classrooms. It is really hard to try to change that and so something about it.

  1. Perhaps that is the problem with education in Chile,there are enough theoretical models but not many take into account our reality.

  2. That´s true . Understanding is a process that requires certain conditions. Being willing to understand something means to count with devoted teachers and a committed Education System as well. This should be worried about all the participants on the process of learning.

  3. Yes... There is too much proposal for changing educations by teachers, but they never get interested in how they improve teaching conditions which are crucial for a good job..
    Changes must come from teachers first... and create good conditions to develop our job...

  4. Better conditions, resources, facilities are only some aspects to consider to improve our teaching practice. There is a lot to take into account in order to apply new methods and for these to become successful.

  5. There have been changes....though not the ones teachers need for effectively accomplish both healthy teaching conditions and successful learning process. Our motivation might be to keep on fighting against adversity and make of our will the guide for addressing our learners´ understanding towards competitiveness. Sorry for such a delayed comment.
